The food and the staff is excellent!!! We have activities that I enjoy!!!! The call lights is answered is a reasonable time.

I strongly advise against sending your loved one to Canterbury. My father was there for just five days, and during that short time, the experience was deeply troubling and unacceptable. My mom and I were present every day, from 8 AM until as late as 1 AM, to ensure he was cared for. The nursing staff only entered the room when explicitly asked, and even then, they treated our concerns as inconveniences. Unlike other facilities he’s been in, such as Hillcrest and Regency - where our involvement was welcomed and appreciated, Canterbury staff seemed irritated by our attentiveness. One nurse, while being asked for assistance, responded dismissively, saying, “Do you need something? I’m on my lunch break.” This was not an isolated incident. It was made very clear that the staff resented how involved we were in my father's care. Communication among staff was inconsistent and often contradictory. One nurse would tell us one thing, another would say the opposite. There was no sense of coordination or continuity of care. Most disturbingly, they over-suctioned my father when it was not medically necessary, resulting in trauma to his trachea and excessive bleeding. This was not only careless, it was dangerous and resulted in him going to the hospital. The lack of patient monitoring is alarming. It was only because we used our own pulse oximeter that we discovered my dad’s oxygen levels were dangerously low. When we informed the staff, instead of taking accountability, they responded defensively with, “WE’RE the caretakers!” - a statement clearly not backed by their actions. Families should be able to trust that their loved ones are receiving competent and compassionate care. At this facility, we felt neither reassured nor safe leaving my father in their hands.

My sister had stage 4 cancer everywhere. She had multiple fractures because of it. She was on a strict pain control regimen. She didn't get any of her pain meds and they were so rough with her she called me screaming in pain and had to call 911 herself. Do not send your loved ones there.

Great care provided to my father following hospitalization. The team was great at keeping me constantly informed with plan of care changes and any changes to dad’s health. The nursing aides frequently checked on him to make sure had had everything he needed and were responsive when he hit is call light. Highly recommend this facility!
