Mom and Dad have made their home at the Athenian Village for the past two years. When my sister and I began looking for Assisted Living facilities, we anticipated a long search. The Athenian was the second place we visited, and we quickly realized our search was over. It doesn't have that "hospital" or "institution" vibe at all. Rather, the dining room feels more like a family restaurant. The food is excellent, with a daily menu. My Mom, who is a very picky eater loves the fact that there is always an alternate menu selection. She really loves ice cream, too! Their little apartment is…

Their little apartment is amazing, complete with a small kitchenette. Athenian Village is clean and well maintained. The best part is the team, led by owner Ed Gates is professional, friendly and treats their residents like family. We have been caught up in the bureaucracy of filing for Medicaid for Mom and Veteran's Assistance for Dad for almost two years now. Mr. Gates has been patient, kind and informative as we are navigating these difficult roads. His leadership team includes Rita, Director of Nursing and Administrative Assistant Kathleen. Both of these ladies are outstanding and we look forward to seeing them each time we visit. Mom and Dad love when Nurse Practitioner Denise visits, and receive outstanding medical care from Nurses Jackie, Amy and Theresa. We are so grateful to have found the Athenian Village. If you are looking for quality care for your loved one, look no further! Thanks, Ed and team.

We moved my dad here a year ago and am very happy with everything about it. The most important part is that he loves it there. He participates in all of the activities, goes to exercise class every day, plays Bingo and does crafts. The nurses are terrific as it the Activities Director. They do nice things for the family, including having a nice Christmas party with live entertainment and great appetizers. The place is clean and lovely. I'm extremely happy with this wonderful facility.
From the start, this place is gorgeous!! I had lunch with my Aunt this week, and the food was excellent (not your typical hospital/nursing home food, yuk!) Management is amazing here. Placing my Aunt, has been extremely stressful, but the director of nursing and assistant director of nursing gave me there personal cell phone numbers to call if I need anything at all! I cant believe it, I have never had a facility make me and my family feel so comfortable and at ease. I have visited numerous times unannounced and am very pleased with the care and the staff truly treat my aunt like she is family. This place is a hidden gem! I highly recommend this facility!
If you care about your elderly loved ones, do not let them live here. The owner does not care about anything other than money. The employees are underpaid and overworked to the point where they almost stop providing decent care for the residents. They make everything seem great on the outside. They offer "5 Star" food, even though the food quality isn't much better than what you would get at a soup kitchen. They promise fun, engaging activities for the residents, which is another lie. The residents are left to sit in their rooms and do nothing all day because the owner is too cheap to spend money on activities. Don't let these people lie to you. There are many better options in the area for assisted living. Edit: In reply to "Michelle". I've never worked there and I am not sure why she would think that, but I feel sorry for the employees who have if this type of review is what you would expect from them. This is not how a professional should reply to a critical one-star review. Maybe start by fixing the problems, then do some online damage control.
Regarding April H. Review. We believe that this is en ex-employee who has put numerous reviews up regarding administration. To this date management is very involved with residents and families, and not one family member has discussed these concerns stating in her review. We always, encourage our families to meet with us if any concerns are felt. Anybody who is looking for an Assistant Living, feel free to come unannounced during meals and try the food and tour. We take pride in the fact that we have the highest resident/staff ratios.
Staff has dedicated long term individuals (nurses) who are grossly overworked. Younger support workers (nursing aides) display a seemingly high turnover rate and poor morale due to unrealistic expectations and low pay. Staffing inadequacies are especially evident on second and third shifts. Night and weekend staffing is not at all adequate for the funds that residents pay to stay in this facility. Residents press their assistance alert buttons and can wait from 20 minutes to 2 hours to have someone appear to address their concerns. This is unbelievable and utterly unacceptable, especially when it concerns requesting help to use the bathroom. When such long wait times happen, and are repeatedly reported to administrative staff to no avail, a clear lack of concern and appropriate staffing is definitely indicated. I would hazard to guess that the owners are making a great deal of money on the backs of their stressed out employees and underserved residents. The food is not at all the quality one would expect from an establishment in this area for the fees charged to clients. This is another indication of cutting corners to put additional funds into the owners’ pockets. I feel sorry for the staff and residents.
Wonderful place and staff
