I have been aware of this facility for many years and have worked with clients in and around it. This community has consistently gotten great feedback from families. I have encountered in senior care at one point I know staffing was an issue and now it seems they have a very great team in place

Very Nice Community
April 21, 2025 Cecil Styons moved in to Apt 2106. It was supposed to be ready on that date to move in. Here it is shy of 5 months later and his outlets in the kitchen still do not work (the outlets on each side of the sink). The bathroom trap under the sink was not installed properly, it leaks water inside the vanity. The floor and wall by the new bathroom vanity is still not fixed. The dishwater rocks, it is not stable. This is not acceptable. Get this stuff fixed.

It is my understanding that Mallard Cove Senior Living (Charter Senior Living) is undergoing an ownership transition as a result of Chapter 11 filing on January 30, 2025. While it is unfortunate that a care facility is weathering a severe financial crisis, those who suffer the most are often its residents. I was informed that due to the recent resignations of key leaders within the facility, there is a lack of oversight on some units, including Memory Care. My comments are in regards to spending several days assisting a family friend who was, until very recently, a resident of the Memory Care unit. To my astonishment, I personally witnessed abusive behavior from the day shift aides towards the residents. I have overheard day shift aides call the residents crazy and state, out loud, it would be their best day on the unit if certain residents left the unit. I have witnessed unattended meds lingering on a med cart. The day shift aides play loud, raunchy music and play horror movies on the community television. They serve the residents unhealthy beverages such as Coca Cola at lunch and dinner without offering another choice and then register complaints that certain residents won't go to sleep "on time". I have overheard aides curse out loud, attend to their phones more than to their assigned residents, & work while using earbuds. I recommended my family friend move out. She was able to move out promptly, without giving the standard 30 day notice due to proven neglect of care. If I could choose one word to summarize the Memory Care unit at Mallard Cove Senior Living, it would be unequivocally "inhumane".
Not all of the staff acted professionally. One woman made my father-in-law uncomfortable by her inappropriate behavior. We addressed with staff and they admitted it wasn't the first time. We do not know if any actions were taken because we moved him to another facility when it was not a fit for both FIL and MIL. When there were other issues with overcharges, the director and staff did work with me to resolve, not immediately, but over the next few months. I cannot recommend other families having to go through the issues we encountered. Our family had to deal the upset with it all quite a while after our loved one was moved to another community where he has absolutely thrived from day one.
My parents are 90 and currently residence of Mallard Cove. The staff has been incredible with taking care of my parents and are very attentive to my parents and in reporting to me any incidents/ concerns. The nursing staff could not be more pleasant and helpful with supplying medications and their contact with my parents doctors. The facility itself is very nice with several different meeting rooms and lounge areas. The apartment includes a nice size living room and full kitchen. My parents apartment also is on the ground floor with glass doors to a small patio and a view of the lake and walking path. At this time I would have to say they have done a very good job protecting my parents from Covid and it is my hopes that they remain vigilant. My parents came from a large home and have had some adjustment to living in a small apartment which I think is normal. The dining room has been closed but that’s for safety at this time. The dining room and kitchen staff have also been incredibly supportive in being flexible with the food choices for my parents. There is also a memory loss facility in case it is needed and nursing home for recovery purposes.
