My grandfather used to be a resident at this facility. When I would visit him, I rarely ever saw staff. After living at this facility, he left in his car and they didn’t notice at first. He was gone for a few hours before they noticed and my family was notified. There would be incidents that occurred while he was there that the facility wouldn’t have answers to because he wasn’t being watched. So glad we moved him to another facility where he is cared for
I have a family member that has been there for several years and I would not recommend them. They seem to focus more on furniture and decorating than having adequate staff members. When my family member was in assisted living, I rarely saw a staff member when visiting, sometimes had to search for staff and often went in and out without seeing anyone other than the front desk employee. Since my family member moved to the Memory Care Unit, I still see very few staff members and often wait 10-20 minutes before someone lets in to the unit. When leaving I have to search for a staff member to let me out and it’s almost always the same person who let me in. I expected to see a higher number of staff members in the Memory Care Unit and am both concerned and shocked that there appears to be very few staff members and they certainly aren’t present. I am still waiting for patient to staff ratio information from SOTV Administration as I find it concerning! I expected much more from this facility. When my family member was in Assisted Living there, I received a phone call at noon saying that they couldn’t locate my family member and had last seen him at 6am. When I asked why they took 6 hours to realize he was gone, there was no response. When I asked if they called the police, they instructed me to call them. My family member was found later that evening.
Our family has had a great experience with Shepherd of the Valley - Poland. This is a beautiful property and building! It was a good feeling walking into this place and seeing how much care the have put into their rehabilitation program while making sure that there is plenty of space for activities with or without groups. There are many Private areas that are nice for family visits! The caretakers and physical therapists have been great! Our family is pleased with all of the various available amenities. In house barber/beautician shop visit is available by appointment.
My mother was discharged from the hospital to this facility. Hospital orders said she must wear bi-pap at night. Next morning after first night….mom tells us that nurse never put bi-pap on her. Nurse said she didn’t know how to use the bi-pap machine and did not use the help number to ask someone how to use it. So she let my mom’s co2 levels rise which could kill her. Apparently nurse got fired same day. I’ll update review as time goes by.
A nice facility but they are way under staffed and are not that medically equipped to deal with residents with urinary problems. The housekeeping department is Mia most of the time. No way is this a 5 star facility.
Shepherd of the Valley - Poland was very nice. They had about 50 to 60 independent units behind their big building, which were like one-story duplexes that range from 805 square feet to 900 square feet. They're all two bedrooms and looked pretty nice. It's a nice little community. Every unit has a washer-dryer, refrigerator, stove, and one car garage. You can go into the main building and eat if you want to, but it's not included in your plan. If you can't go get your meal, because you're either not healthy or can't go, they'll charge you $1 to come and deliver it to you. The staff was very nice and very good. They had excellent landscaping and it was kept up well.
Clean, spacious rooms, and a staff who are dedicated to helping their clients.
We looked at Shepherd of the Valley-Poland. The facility is nice, and it seems clean. The lady that gave the tour was not great. It didn't seem warm and engaging. It seemed rather cold. We did not try the food. They have a beautiful chapel there that we saw; that was very pretty as an amenity. We saw one of the rooms, the dining area, and stuff like that, it just seemed very cold. The lady that gave us the tour didn't seem engaging, she didn't seem excited, and it was just kind of flat. So it came off as being very cold, like not a warm place at all. Compared to the other facility which is family-oriented, and the staff is very engaging, very inquisitive and they wanted to know more about my mom. I didn't have any of that. It was very like a formal sort of very cold tour. But the facilities are beautiful, and they seem clean. We certainly have an activities calendar, and it seemed like they have a lot of things. We didn't try the food or anything like that, but it came across like it was a more institutional sort of setting versus a warm, friendly, engaging atmosphere.
