The level of incompetence displayed by many of the agency staff at Stillwater is nothing short of disgusting. These are people who willingly accept paychecks to care for the most vulnerable human beings and then spend entire shifts sitting on their phones, refusing to complete basic care tasks, ignoring alarms, and acting as if being asked to do their job is some kind of personal insult. They walk into shifts expecting special treatment, demand praise for bare-minimum effort, and roll their eyes at any request that requires effort beyond existing in the room. What makes it even more gross is…
The level of incompetence displayed by many of the agency staff at Stillwater is nothing short of disgusting. What makes it even more gross is the performative empathy - the fake attention and care when families or administrators walk by, followed by complete disengagement the moment no one is watching. They don’t even move residents unless someone forces them. They don’t communicate changes. They don’t even pretend to care. And the system enables it because staffing quotas matter more than competence. If any of these agency workers behaved this way in a childcare setting, people would be outraged. But because the residents are nonverbal adults with disabilities, their neglect is written off as “good enough.” It’s not good enough. It's revolting. And every administrator who continues to hire bodies instead of caregivers is complicit. Gross!!
Stillwater Center in Dayton, Ohio, presents itself as a place of care and compassion for individuals with severe disabilities, but the reality inside its walls paints a far darker picture—one of chronic neglect, sheer incompetence, and institutional failure. Residents—many of whom are completely immobile, non-verbal, and utterly dependent on the facility for their well-being—are routinely left sitting in their wheelchairs for 12 to 13 hours a day. Imagine the discomfort, the risk of pressure sores, the sheer inhumanity of it. This isn’t care; it’s warehousing human beings like forgotten…
This isn’t care; it’s warehousing human beings like forgotten objects. The nursing staff, tasked with the immense responsibility of caring for these vulnerable individuals, demonstrate a shocking lack of skill and urgency. Missed feeds, delayed hygiene care, and glaring signs of indifference are not rare occurrences—they're the standard. There's a pervasive attitude of "not my problem," and far too many staff seem more interested in their phones than the residents they're supposed to serve. And then there’s the administration—masters not of management or reform, but of cover-up. Concerns raised by families and lower-level staff disappear into a black hole. Questions about injuries, neglect, or alarming changes in resident conditions are met with evasiveness, scripted excuses, or outright denial. Their expertise lies not in improving care but in preserving the image of a functioning facility while the truth festers behind closed doors. The true tragedy of Stillwater Center is the helplessness of its residents—many of whom cannot move, speak, or cry for help. They are trapped, unable to express pain or protest mistreatment. They are the unwilling victims of a system that views them as tasks on a checklist rather than human beings deserving dignity. If you are considering this place for a loved one—don’t. Look elsewhere. No amount of polished brochures or administrative charm can hide what’s happening to the people inside. Stillwater Center isn’t just failing—it’s harming the very people it claims to protect.
