I have lived in 4 other similar facilities in the Columbus area over the last 5 years, both with my late wife ( died August 2022) and alone. All ( except one) provided meals and activities. The Gables of Westerville is, without question, the finest place I have ever lived in. The structure is well built with all conveniences. The food is delicious; the staff is friendly, helpful and efficient. Activities varied and enjoyable and my fellow residents are like family. I couldn’t have made a better choice than moving here.
My mother has lived at the Gables for the past 9 months and I cannot say enough good things about her experience. We visited many Assisted Living facilities and put much thought into finding my mom her new place to call home. The Gables has not disappointed. The facility is modern, clean, bright, and very well layed out. She had a very smooth transition and has already made many many friends. The activities director, Heidi, brings energy and compassionate care to the Gables that is not anything that we found at other AL facilities in the area- she is amazing! The entire staff, from the…

It was necessary for me to make a quick transfer of my mother from the hospital to a memory care unit. While I was not wowed by the sterile environment of the memory care unit of the Gables (a significant contrast to the assisted living and independent living sections of the facility), it is within walking distance of my home and I thought I could make it work for my mom. While I was at the hospital with my mom, other family members moved in her belongings. The day before her planned transfer, I went to set up her room. Her room was not yet completely cleaned. I spoke with family members there visiting their loved ones who provided less than enthusiastic reviews and expressed the need “to stay on top of things”. I made a point to make multiple trips to the common area. I witnessed ZERO interactions between staff and residents while residents sat clustered around a TV and then ante their meals off of styrofoam serveware. When a former neighborhood acquaintance who is now a resident approached a staff member and asked a question, I witnessed her yelled at three times to return to her seat and be told that the staff member would not speak with her until she was seated. She looked like a deflated, scolded child. That clinched it. I knew I would not feel safe leaving my mother there especially in light of the fact that she would not be permitted to have her phone. At 7 am the next morning and before any checks had been written, we removed my mother’s belongings. Prospective residents should also be aware that no other facility I visited required an $8000 non-refundable community fee.
My mother spent the last 5 months of her life here in the memory unit. She was treated with compassion, dignity and love. The nurses would call with any changes in her condition and worked well with hospice. We truly felt that the director and staff were an extended part of our family and they made these months much more bearable. I highly recommend The Gables! Update: Two years later my Dad moved into assisted living and The Gables has, again, been wonderful. The food is good, the nurses are wonderful and the director is on top of things. I was impressed that the director of nursing, activities director and main director were still the same people and it is still owned by the same company.
It was close to home, was very nice, and had a full time RN and physician asst. on staff.
I cannot express my gratitude to the staff at The Gables. We moved my Grandmother here after a less than stellar experience at another facility in Westerville. I wish we would have done it sooner. Every single member of staff was nothing short of amazing. They truly care about each and every resident and go out of their way to treat them as individuals. I was also blown away by how my family was treated by the staff. Extremely kind and compassionate. They answered every question we had and kept us involved with what was going on with my Grandmother. I am so thankful she was there, surrounded by so many caring individuals when she passed. The staff was incredibly comforting to everyone in my family in the days leading up to and following her passing.
What we like the most about The Gables of Westerville are the people and how much they care for our loved ones. We are super happy with this community!
I visited The Gables of Westerville. They were very helpful in the whole process. The facility itself is beautiful. It's clean and it is welcoming. The residents love it, both in memory care and in assisted living. Multiple residents came up to us and said that they loved living there. There's nothing that I didn't like about it. The rooms are well-maintained and Mom will have plenty of space. They're beautifully set up. They keep them active all day long. They have a variety of games and crafts. They have small group activities too.
