Toxic manager, will smile to your face but refuses all suggestions. Why not allow vending machines? Why not enough parking? Why only 6 handicapped spots when you acknowledged that half the residents are handicapped? There is no food in the bistro after noon, no vending machines, often no coffee cups. The meals are disapointing, just pick a sandwich or go across the street to the gas station. Sad. Do not go here.
The residents are vibrant and friendly, and my mom has made many friends already. And the monthly cost is $[removed] less than [community removed] for a nicer one bedroom apt with a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The staff needs to be more consistent with their follow-up, sometimes it's speedy and sometimes not so much. They are no doubt understaffed just like most places. But overall, the place has been great so far.
I will be moving to United Church Homes - The Polaris Community. I met a couple of people there, and everybody seemed friendly, but I liked that it was closer to representing the home I had just moved out of. It had a full kitchen, no kitchenette. The room was a par, and it looked comfortable. They had a range, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, and a washer and dryer. So, they had quite a bit, and Anna was great. I didn't see anything wrong with the cleanliness of the building. It's a very large building.
They do offer nursing aid services if needed. For example my mom just had surgery and I have someone come in twice a day to check in and help. Rooms come in studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom. We have a 1bedroom with a bath and a half and balcony. Some rooms come with a balcony but not all. You get an all in one washer dryer in your apartment and there are washer dryers available down the hall. The apartment sizes vary by what you select but they are very manageable and roomy. I think they offer a nice selection. From activities in the building, to going out as a group. They have a bus that will take residents to the grocery store. Movies, bar sports room. Large court yard. They need a dog park. Sidewalks for outside strolls. Shops and restaurants less than a mile away. They will set up Uber rides if needed. Residents get 2 free rides a month.
Very quiet place
[name removed] has been so helpful with getting us familiar with the building and residents. Consistent activities have been really great and my grandmother looks forward to dominos with her new friends every night!
United Church Homes - The Polaris Community is independent living and it provides a third-party care program. What I liked about it most is that it was an age-in program. A person could spend the rest of their lives there, even as they transition from independent to assisted. It was equipped for all of those. The person could age in there all the way up to even needing hospice, and they would not have to leave the premises to find another location to stay. Everything was included in the cost. All of the utilities, meals, activities, and access to many different floors were included. They had an area where they could go and interact. It was not affordable housing, but it was not high-end. It was moderate, but it was beautiful. It had just about every amenity. It looks almost like a hotel style, very spacious, and inviting. They said that doctors come to the facility. They also had transportation if they needed to go to the store or if they needed to go to a doctor's appointment. Those things were provided without extra cost. I only met two workers, the lady that took us on the tour and someone was doing some cleaning. Everybody was pleasant. The young lady who did the tour was very thorough. She had a lot of confidence about what they had to offer for the residents. They did show us the different rooms where the residents could eat. They have 24-hour access if they want to get something to snack on and get something to drink. They did talk about activities that are posted. If they like planting with flowers, they have rooms especially designed for them to do that. They took us out to the back where they had an outdoor garden where the residents could work. They were in the area where they could walk to the stores and shops. It was very pleasant.
Staff is extremely friendly. They truly care about the residents. They have various activities, like cards, dominoes, movies, etc and you can sign up for outside group lunches. There are extremely friendly people that live there & look out for each other. Food is good, but they don't have specific food for specific needs i.e. diabetic diet but I heard they have hired a dietitian.
