Everything from the beginning transition process to end of life was marked by care, knowledge, and dignity by all staff. This is not the norm in elder care in our experience. Our family will forever be grateful to everyone who cared for our dad at a very difficult time. If you are looking for professionalism, expertise, kindness, and support Altenheim is the place to be. Thank you to Audra, Emily and everyone at Altenheim.
Shurmer Place Senior & Assisted Living is a clean and well-run facility. The entire process of getting my sister into the facility was handled with the utmost professional courtesy and compassion. The highly experienced director was an absolute delight. Her friendly attitude trickles down to her staff. The facility is up-to-date, clean, spacious, and cheerful. Shurmer Place Senior & Assisted Living is a clean and well-run facility. The entire process of getting my sister into the facility was handled with the utmost professional courtesy and compassion. The highly experienced director was an absolute delight. Her friendly attitude trickles down to her staff. The facility is up-to-date, clean, spacious, and cheerful. The planned activities, which are vital to a person's well-being, were plentiful and fun. The activity directors are personable and compassionate. They often just came around to chat. The nursing staff is on top of their game! They log everything and are truly concerned for the health of their residents. They will keep the family up-to-date. The menu is full of variety and the food is tasty. Our family was well-pleased with the care given to my sister. She was thriving there and really enjoyed making new friends. We had peace of mind that she was safe. The staff knew our family by name. Unfortunately, my sister passed away after one year of being there of health complications while in the hospital. The director and staff were so compassionate towards us. The director even drove of few of my sister's new found friends to her funeral plus a few staff members came as well. The move-out process was unrushed considering all the many tasks that were on our plate. Every facility has its pros & cons. And, yes we had a few minor issues, but they were addressed in a timely manner. I highly recommend this facility.
Our mother, Ellen, lived at the Shurmer Place Assisted Living complex for 11 years. In that time, we consistently experienced and witnessed a caring, professional environment in which mom felt loved and at home. She was treated completely, personally and professionally every day. We are grateful for the staff at Shurmer Place who grew to be family to us and took such good care of our mom.

I had a very positive experience while recovering from a fractured pelvis and receiving ten days of care at Altenheim! The rehabilitation staff were wonderful and I felt they really cared about my recovery and progress. The aids were very nurturing and gentle when providing care to me, and helping me do the things I could not do for myself. The nursing staff made sure my pain was managed well and that my medications were provided in a timely manner. I am grateful that I was able to go to Altenheim. I have heard horror stories from other people and their experiences. The facility is beautiful, clean, has spacious rooms, and has much to offer.
Great facility! Beautiful campus and very friendly staff.
Place smells like cigarette smoke. Their employees smoke near all the entrances of this place. They also have an enclosed cigarette smoking courtyard where they allow the smokers to go smoke in. Trouble is the court yard is next to the kitchen. Nothing like poison, cigarette tar smoke stink drifting onto Dad and moms dinner.
Strongsville shurmer memory care ; Below average care in memory care. Disapointing attitudes of caregivers. Seems weird that patients are walking around full of energy and within weeks they are sitting around comatose. Most are passing away around 6 - 8 month mark ????????? WEIRD
Shurmer Place at Altenheim is beyond amazing. Kim Schulz, The Executive Director, is a wonderful woman. She is involved in every aspect of the residents life, from Executive Director, to helping in the kitchen, transporting, driving the bus, toileting, activities, community outreach etc. This is why there is an extremely low turnover rate regarding employees. The nurses, kitchen, maintance, salon, activities, housekeeping, receptionist + goes above any standard of care. Call lights are answered with in minutes, care is beyond expectations, food is delicious, sooo many wonderful in facility activities and outings etc. I can't say enough positive things about Shurmer Place. Words can not express how happy we are with my Mom's care and the other resident's care here. We lost my Dad in less than 24 hours in a Memory Care Facility. Since his death, I have poured my life into finding facilities worth looking into and others that families should run from. I have helped friends and other families find appropriate facilities for their loved ones while learning how nursing facilities operate. Thank you Shurmer Place for providing phenomenal care for your residents. We love you!!!
