Moving both of my parents into memory care 8 months ago was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I cannot visit them as often as I would like but thank goodness for the staff at Cotter House. The love, care, and communication from all the staff has given me tremendous peace of mind. When we first moved them in, I was overwhelmed with worry and second guessing whether I was doing the right thing. Nurse Donna was such a gift during that time. She was understanding, comforting, and reassuring, and it was clear she had walked many families through these same heartbreaking struggles. Casie has been incredibly helpful in keeping me informed when something would make things easier or better for them. She even takes the extra step of finding examples on Amazon and sending them to me, which makes it simple for me to respond quickly. Gretchen has shown incredible care for my parents. She took the time to sit with my mom with a laptop to make sure she could attend an important court hearing over Zoom. She has also taken time to sit and have thoughtful, meaningful conversations with my mom regarding my dad and the many changes in mom’s life. Her willingness to listen and support my mom in processing those changes means a great deal to our family. Lisa discovered that my mom had been her partner’s elementary school teacher, which created such a special connection between them. Lisa once sent me a picture of my parents visiting together which was so reassuring as I was out of town. One time when I was visiting, we ran into Lisa in the hall and my mom immediately walked up and hugged her. Seeing that kind of genuine affection and trust between them eased my heart tremendously. I’m very grateful for the care and warmth Lisa shows my mom. My heart goes out to anyone whose loved one has dementia and facing many difficult decisions. Thank goodness someone had recommended Cotter House to me last year. I am able to sleep at night because I see how much the staff loves my parents and because I know they will call or text me right away and vice versa, whether it is a medical issue or dad could use a new pair of slippers.
We feel fortunate to have found Cotter House for both of my parents. Their journey began when we realized they were not safe to stay at their home. We initially found another excellent place for them where they received top-tier care. But then dad fell and broke his hip, and mom had a stroke. After rehab, they were ineligible to return to their previous place. Because of their different needs, we thought they would need to be in separate facilities, but Cotter House made it possible for them to live in the same facility in two separate neighborhoods. Because of their different needs, we thought they would need to be in separate facilities, but Cotter House made it possible for them to live in the same facility in two separate neighborhoods. Now they have their individual needs met and come together for activities and shared events. The staff is amazing! From the moment they arrived, Tammy, Gretchen, Donna, Casie, and many aides welcomed Mom and Dad with open arms. They receive genuine care, thoughtful attention, and lots of love from the staff. The PT and OT have also been a big plus for mom and dad. The therapists are compassionate and encouraging. And the food is fresh and delicious. Cotter House is top tier. We are so glad that my parents are at Cotter House. After visiting them, I feel relieved to know that when we say goodbye, they are in the best of hands, and I do not worry about the care they receive in their new home.
Placing my dad in memory care was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, especially coming from a facility that wasn’t able to meet his needs. From my very first interaction with Cotter House, I felt a level of compassion and attentiveness that truly set it apart. I visited multiple times—both announced and unannounced, on different days and times—and the feeling was always the same: calm, compassionate, and genuinely attentive. The staff took the time to understand my dad—quirks (he has lots) and all—before he even walked through the door. Every staff member knows him—even…

Every staff member knows him—even housekeeping. I’m always welcomed warmly, like today when “Miss May May” (my nickname for her) in laundry greeted me with a big hug—she’s a rockstar, they all are!!! They care for him with kindness and dignity, reflecting the level of love and attention I would want for him every day. The facility is clean, calm, and comforting—never chaotic or unpleasant. Because of the Cotter Crew I can finally breathe at night and begin to live my life again, finding balance in the emotional roller coaster this despicable disease brings!!! Communication is incredibly important to me, and they have exceeded my expectations. They’ve even embraced my own quirks—and in just nine months, they’ve truly become like family. For someone like my dad, that sense of peace and “home” matters more than anything. And for me, it means everything, I’m extremely grateful.
My family and I are incredibly grateful for the exceptional care my mom receives there at the Cotter House. We can’t say enough about the amazing people who care for her — the staff embodies everything you would hope for in a care team: they are kind, loving, attentive, compassionate, empathetic, and thoughtful. Although we had always hoped my mom could remain in her own home, her journey with dementia has made that impossible. The Cotter House has become her new home — not just a place to live, but a community where she is engaged, supported, and genuinely cared for. The relationships she’s formed with both the residents and the staff have brought her joy and comfort, and for that, we are endlessly thankful. We feel truly blessed to know the extraordinary people who make The Cotter House such a special place, and we are thankful for the love and kindness they have shown to our mom. Cotter House- THANK YOU!!!
The Cotter House is paramount in the care for those with dementia. They provide the resident with the finest of care 24/7 and are attentive to their ever changing needs. We are confident our loved one is well cared for at all times. The associates never hesitate to contact me with a question, and I feel we are well informed. When we visit, our loved one is always clean, nicely dressed, well directed and engaged with the staff; his apartment room is always spotless and put together. I want to make a special mention, (in addtition to all the staff who are always welcoming, kind and helpfu) to Aleks, Donna, Casie and Michelle. They went above and beyond to meet with us late on a Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend. Going this extra mile, will forever resonate with our gratitude. The Cotter House truly cares about each individual that comes through the front door - as a resident, family member, guest or visitor. Their first priority is ensuring this is a good fit for everyone involved. The weekly updates/messages from the Executive Director are always positive and welcoming. The offerings to the caregivers are greatly appreciated and we feel valued in this journey. Thank you Cotter House, you are a Blessing to all the lives you touch.
My daughter calls cotter house camp cotter because of the wonderful stimulating activities. The staff treats all the residents with respect and dignity. They are always available to ask questions and to receive help. We are grateful for all the help they are providing for my husband.
Unfortunately, about 10 years ago, my mom (my hero!) was diagnosed with dementia. My stepfather kept her safe and cared for at home, along with many wonderful caregivers, but recently, we made the hard choice to find a memory care facility for her. After doing our research, we kept on hearing that The Cotter House was THE best place for dementia care in Central Ohio (and the region!). When we visited, we knew we’d found our home for mom. Initially, as we were preparing for the move, it was heartbreaking and scary and I was so worried that no one could do better with her than we could. I cried buckets of tears -- more than I’ve cried in my adult life. I was so sad and despondent. How incredibly wrong I was. These people know what they are doing. From the moment we walked into the facility on “move in day” (we told mom she was going to go there for in-patient rehab, and she was fine with that), they had signs welcoming her and a whole crew of staff there to greet her at the door and fawn all over her. They took her to her apartment (that we’d outfitted with photos of her family and other nice touches), and she LOVED it. Then they took her to the café and gave her tea, all while different staff members came up and introduced themselves and played a puzzle game with her that she enjoys. She transitioned into their care beautifully and instead of sleeping in until at least noon every day, she’s getting up in the 9 am hour, going to the activities and getting the vital engagement she was lacking at home. My stepdad and other family members and I are committed to seeing her daily (I’ve been there at least five times a week for the past 3 weeks and bonus – I am so enjoying meeting all the other residents and families). We are incredibly privileged to be able to have such a wonderful care team and home for mom in our backyard. The Cotter Crew, as they call themselves, are the most caring people, have unending patience, and have expertise in dementia care. This transition has exceeded my wildest expectations for mom and my stepfather and I could not recommend them more.
My husband has been at The Cotter house for 3 months. His admission was of an urgent matter. The entire staff was sympathetic, caring and helpful with the move in process. The outreach coordinator even followed up with me several times to see how I was doing. When I visit which is nearly daily the staff greets me with a smile, knows my husbands name and my name. The facility is impeccably clean, orderly and the residents appear well cared for. I knew this was a wonderful facility and my husband seems happy living there. The nurses are warm and caring and go over and above to help my spouse. The hospice company is also top notch and caring and professional. I’d highly recommend Cotter House for anyone needing memory care.
