Very poor management culture in Short Term Skilled Nursing. The place is clean and most of the 1st line care givers are good, but the management, i.e. care manager, site director are more concerned with making sure they are not blamed for issues - to the point where they assume they need to blame someone else - like the pharmacy, the transport company, the sending hospital - before they finish listening to the patient's issue. We truly felt like they believed it was OUR fault the staff didn't talk to each other. Communication regarding intake and discharge procedures were non-existent. There was a folder left on the table in the room - about 40 pages - that we could read at check in. At discharge, we were handed another folder with some information, but several key fields were left blank including the process for how home PT and OT would happen. As it turns out, they did not follow up with the preferred Home Care provider so we had to have our PCP call in orders. They called in prescriptions at discharge, but used the wrong date of birth so the pharmacy didn't have anything for us. When we called WH regarding this issue, someone at WHRV called in the script again - but used the wrong date of birth again. We got a call the next morning from the care manager who instantly blamed the pharmacy even though two different staff at WHRV used the wrong date of birth - then she hung up on us. The discharge packet had NO signatures from anyone at WHRV nor did anyone ask us for a signature at discharge. And we had to track down an aide to get help getting the patient from the room to our car. There were several very helpful and caring staff there - specifically we very much appreciated Demetra, LaTosha and Shelbi. We hope they can get some positive recognition. Finally, We need to say that we called the site director two weeks ago to discuss these issues before doing this review. To date she has NOT called back.

My mother has been at Western Hills for 4 years and she really loves the staff and the care that she has received. The community and staff are like family. It really gives my family peace of mind knowing that your loved one is in good hands.

My wife is in Western Hills Nursing & Rehab Center. That's where she went for rehab, and when they discharged her, she stayed there for long-term care. Not having had any experience with this before, I think it's OK. I think they're doing a pretty good job. They do check on her fairly often. The only thing is they don't have a doctor there full time. My wife's room has been kept very clean. The only problem I have is they don't have a private room available for her. She is in with a woman who is hard of hearing and keeps her television up very loud and screams for the nurse all day. My wife…

My wife was seeing a therapist, but she was not making any improvement, so she was discharged into long term.

My mother has been a resident of Western Hills for exactly a year today. She feels like it is home since Dad is gone and that is due to the staff. The nurses and aids that visit every day are all friendly and cheery when they stop in and the front desk attendees are always upbeat when I visit which is very often. Overall, the staff from top to bottom is what makes Western Hills a great place for Mom. She always says the meals are very tasty and she enjoys the company she eats with. Overall, Mom seems very happy and content at Western Hills and my brother and I are extremely grateful for that.

Was never asked to participate in any activities and was usually ignored. Rebecca, Kelly, Mckenzie, and Summer were all amazing in the nursing staff. The kitchen staff was very attentive and easy to work with.

My mother-in-law moved into Western Hills Retirement Village. They were really friendly and very helpful. The staff is just very good. The place is really clean. They have all kinds of activities they're doing daily. They have like bingo and regular activities. They have an activity room, and you see the people come down to them. They come down for lunch and dinner. There are a variety of activities to choose from. They've just done an all-around great job. They have a pool available for the seniors during the summer. They have in their rooms a regular small kitchen that's got a stove, a couple of burners up on top, a regular refrigerator, a counter space, a sink, and a walk-in shower-type thing. It's a lower seat wall shower, so they don't have to step over so far or raise their legs up so high. I was very happy with it. For the cost versus what you're getting, I think this is the best value.

I like the location of Western Hills Retirement Village. The fact that you don't have to drive out onto a busy street is very helpful for senior living. I like the fact they have rehab and advanced nursing care, if we would ever need that service. The lady that we've been dealing with has been extremely helpful and pleasant. The cleanliness seemed just fine while we were there. They have a very nice dining room, and a nice green space outside for walking. They also have services for independent living. If you need to have someone help with the medication, then you can pay for a monthly service. If you would need any additional services, they offer those. We could see the dining area through a window, but we didn't actually go in.

My sister was at Western Hills Retirement Village. She didn't eat in the dining area. The dining area was small, but the rooms were very spacious. They had activities like bingo and a racing game, but she didn't participate.
