3.9 · 34 reviewsThe existing care staff work hard but there are not enough employees to cover tasks adequately. Offer better pay and get rid of reasons why you are understaffed so that you can avoid leaving patients in less than sanitary conditions for hours at a time. There is no reason to run out of supplies and clean linens. You do not need to be the best at making a profit, you need to be the best at providing care, especially at the daily rates being charged.
My mom lived at The Woodlands at Otterbein in Ottawa Hills for 6 years. There are no words to sufficiently express my gratitude to the staff for all they did for her. The building itself and her apartment was so beautiful and so well cared for. She always felt like she was living in a palace! The food is outstanding. But most of all, the kindness and compassion of ALL the staff was something that is rare to find these days. They always went so far beyond what was expected. My mom lived at The Woodlands at Otterbein in Ottawa Hills for 6 years. There are no words to sufficiently express my gratitude to the staff for all they did for her. The building itself and her apartment was so beautiful and so well cared for. She always felt like she was living in a palace! The food is outstanding. But most of all, the kindness and compassion of ALL the staff was something that is rare to find these days. They always went so far beyond what was expected. They ALL treated her like she was their own mom and really could not have done any more for her. I think you would be hard pressed to find a place any better anywhere in this country.
This is a beautiful facility with so many activities offered to add to the quality of life for their residents.

Management does not do enough, even when they have aides and nurses dedicated to their work and patient care it’s truly just not fair. David and Tracy can do much better and if they can’t, there needs to be new management. Good facility but can be way better.
88 degrees outside and the air isn’t working. This is ridiculous! All the money that they get for skilled nursing ($425 per day) and long-term care ($300 per day) and they can't afford to put in a new AC system? The staff is great here, but Corporate you need to step up to the plate before this place becomes just like Divine. Maybe you already are. They don't have air either. I bet all of the corporate heads live in nice houses and drive fancy cars, while your patients sit in hot rooms. The next couple of days it's supposed to be in the 90s and there's no air. You need to make some changes here so you're patients don't have to sit in this hot, stagnant building. Not to mention you can't even open the windows for fresh air or a breeze because they're broken. Like I said Ridiculous!!
My mother was here for appox. 3 weeks. First, I want to say that this is a beautiful complex. Very relaxing to look at from the outside and very clean and well kept on the inside. No smells at all. I must admit, her care was professional. The aids took personal care of my mother and treated her well. I love the fact that her well being was a priority. I will recommend this facility. If you are putting a loved one in a rehab facility, please do your homework. I visited before my mother arrived. They were very welcoming. The rooms are like mini suites. Very well kept and clean. Thank you for the awesome job done.
The renovation of the Ross Adaire Room & Katherine Dining Room’s renovation is just “wow”! What an amazing way to love on your residents!
Our mom moved to The Woodlands, the independent living community at Otterbein Sunset House, in 2023. The facility is well maintained, the setting tranquil and lovely, and the staff friendly and attentive. We are grateful that our mom has two happy years at the Woodlands before moving to live closer to family. Thank you!
